How can I become a domestic partner with someone?

My boyfriend doesnt have health coverage but I do. With my health coverage, I can share my benefits with a domestic partner whom I have been dating 6 months or more. We arent quite ready yo get married yet partially cause weddings are expensive & we are saving so I can have my dream wedding :-}

What do you have to do to become a domestic partner with someone? Is it through the courthouse or is it just something that the couple considers themselves to be if they live together & have been dating for a while?
